Chichen Itza - The Ruins

The Castle Chichen-itza In this building we can find a relation of the Cult to the sun of the mayas with the solar cicle. We can infer this for a number of coincidences presented in the castle. The mayan-tolteca cicle had 52 years. This years had 365 days. A year had 18 months (uinales) of 20 days (kines) and 5 more days which were considered as (Kazil-Kin) all together were named Uayeb. The Pyramid in which "The castle" lays has 9 plataforms with their faces interrupted by one stairway that has access to the center of the edification forming 18 bodies equal number to the months of the year. Each one of the 8 first plataforms is ornamented with 3 flat tables and the last one has 2 of this tables forming 52 in all the pyramids equal number of the years of the mayan-tolteca cicle. Each one of the 4 stairways has 91 stairs. The four stairways and the addition of one more stair in the upper part of the building makes 365 stairs equal the number of the days of the years.

Chichen-Itza Ball Game Chichen-itza An stadium formed by two parallel walls 36.22 mts apart from each other. In the central part of the walls theirs a ring of stone ornamented with two snakes. In the hole of the ring the ball must pass through. The whole game consisted in using any part of your body (being the foot the less dexeretive part) in order to make the ball going through the ring. When the ball passed the team when and the spectators had to give theirs furs to the winning team. The ball game has acoustic properties if you place yourself above one of the plataforms under the rings you can notice that if you shout or clap a particular eco takes place for an indefinite number of times.

Chacmool Chichen-itza The word chacmool means "red fangs" chac (red) and mool (fang). The chacmools are idols of human form laying in their backs with ther head turned to one side. Almost every chacmool has in their lap a disc in which offers where made.

The temple of the warriors Chichen-itza This buildings is one of the must important. We can see in this builds no less than overlaped constructions. The first has a pyramid cuadrangular similiar to the "Castle". Under it appears the "Chamber of the paintings" and next "The warriors columns". This is a very large building and has edification like the one called "Las mesas", "The market" and "The osary".

The Snail (Observatory) Chichen-itza This was the astronomic observatory of the mayans. At first this building was completly circular from its base to the top of the snail. The upper part of the snail has 4 doors coordinated with the 4 cardinate points. On of the most impresive buildings if Chichen-Itza.
