Palenque - The Ruins
 

Temple of The Inscriptions

Temple located in the upper part of a pyramid in the orient side. Has this name because of three tabloids of rock with geroglific inscripcions. This inscriptions detail the history of the regent dynasty of the city. Theirs also inscriptions that detail the death of Pacal el Grande and his travel to the underworld. Where he takes the identity of the two twin in the Popol Vuh that defeated the lords of the underworld and reached inmortality. They also describe the ancestors of pacal and the celestial band.

The Palace

This a complex of interconnected buildings that where built and modified for four hundred years. It is located in the central zone and it's name is for the conjuction of yards and the tower of the four bodies. The palace contains pieces of the high valor art.

The Temple of The Cruces

This is the conjunction of the cruces formed by the temple of the cruz, the temple of the sun and temple of the foliaged cruz. The temples conmemorate the throne of the Lord Can Bahlum II, after the death of Pacal el Grande. The cruces are representations of the tree of creation that is located in the center of the world according to the Mayan mithology.

Aqueduct

A structure of three meters tall that conducts the river Otulum underneath the Palenque Plaza. The aqueduct is complemented with a stone bridge built in a place called Bath of the Queen.

Temple of the Lion

Located 200 meters south of the principal group. It's name comes from an elaborated bas-relief inside of the temple that represents the king sited over a throne of a two headed jaguar.

Templo of the Count

It was called this way because of Waldeck that occupied this building while his stay in Palenque. Waldeck gave him to himself the title of Count. The elegant building has a a five body basement with stares. In the upper part theirs a temple that preservers all the original arquitectonic elements.
