History
San Cristobal de Las Casas "The Magic Town" was one of the first cities built in the Spanish North America. The captain Diego de Mazariegos funds The Villa Real de Chiapas in this place after defeating the Zoques of the north mountain. Villa Real de Chiapa will now the capital of the State of chiapas.
More than 400 years had to pass for this settlement to take the name of San Cristobal de las Casas in honor of Fray Bartolome de Las Casas for his great contribution in favor of the rights of indegenous people of the New Spain (Mexico).
